Friends¶
What it does¶
Friends is thecomp's social layer. You connect with other players, see who you're playing alongside, and view each other's golf stats and round history. Friendships are mutual — one person sends a request and the other accepts — and they unlock a shared view of your golf so you can follow how your mates are getting on across their rounds.
How it works¶
- Open Friends to see three tabs: your friends, incoming requests, and search.
- Find people in the search tab by typing a name. Results show matching players with their home club and handicap.
- Send a request by tapping "Add" on a search result or "Add friend" on someone's profile. The button changes to "Requested" while it's pending.
- Respond to requests in the requests tab — a badge shows how many are waiting. Accept to become friends instantly, or decline to clear it.
- View a profile to see a player's handicap, home club, and — when visible to you — their stats and round history.
- Remove a friend from their profile; a confirmation reminds you that you'll both drop off each other's lists.
Key details¶
- Friendship is mutual and confirmed: a request must be accepted before you're connected. Either person can remove the friendship later, which removes it for both.
- Search matches any part of a player's name and filters out yourself. Each result shows your current status with that person — already friends, request sent, a request for you to accept, or available to add.
- Lists update as you go — accepting, declining, or removing reflects straight away without a refresh.
- Privacy is yours to set. You can mark your profile private. When you do, players who aren't your friends see only your name, home club, and handicap — your stats and round history stay hidden behind a note inviting them to add you as a friend. Friends always see your stats and history. If your profile is public, anyone can see them.
- [BETA] Starting a round directly from a friend's profile is coming soon — the affordance is visible but not yet active.
Technical notes¶
Built with Flutter/Dart. Friend connections and requests are stored in Firestore, and what you can see on another player's profile is governed by that player's privacy setting and your friendship status. Stats and round history shown on a profile stay consistent with what you see elsewhere in the app.
Related features¶
